"Agua para todos" - introducción al diálogo

The stakes related to both water supply and status have been under discussion for several decades, and the necessary answers have yet to see the light of day; Non-governmental associations, international institutions, experts and the private sector have held discussions for several years without having reached agreement.

In the context of its water-related activities, the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement - AFD) contacted Bridge Initiative with a view to exploring the possibilities of organising a constructive dialogue between the various stakeholders.

Bridge Initiative brought together on November 4th, 2005 in Paris a certain number of stakeholders with concrete involvement in these questions, and attempted to respect a balance that could provide a neutral space for dialogue. Our work is always aimed at enabling relations to develop between stakeholders whose complex political realities would seem opposed to each other, in order to help them reach an understanding of what divides and unites them. This exercise in mutual political understanding can, in the best cases lead to agreements being reached or joint actions taken. This kind of meeting allows renewed contact with democratic practise and debate where opinions are and can be expressed, and a freedom of speech that reaches beyond all forms of representation. This enables a rekindling of true exchange and leads to the fundamental political issues being discussed.

A second meeting will take place on October 16th, 2006, in Dijon (France).
